Modern Warfare Beta - How Did It Go?
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare has just recently held its beta test for the game, with all platforms able to take part in it for two weekends. PlayStation 4 got the early access thanks to a deal with Activision that gives them exclusive early access features. Xbox and PC joined the fray in week 2 and this year Call Of Duty has introduced cross-platform play where all platforms can play against each other (Xbox can play with PS4 users!). Let's take a look at the early beta and our thoughts on it:
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare Beta Maps
The beta had four playable maps in normal multiplayer modes:
- Azhir Cave
- Hackney Yard
- Grazna Raid
- Gun Runner
Of them, the best is probably Hackney Yard and Gun Runner. Azhir Cave has so many spots for camping, hiding in buildings and not to mention the lighting on this map is very difficult to see other players in. You're more than likely to have a frustrating time playing this game mode. Hackney Yard is great when you have a good team, but it still offers some very good spots to control whilst not having to worry about a million different line of sights.
Gun Runner came in later so I didn't get to play it too much, but it offers a traditional 3 lane map that players from Black Ops 4 series will love.
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare Guns
The max level in the beta was level 30. The guns this year come with a gunsmith option that allows you to change certain settings on your gun (such as reducing aim down sight speed in return for higher accuracy). The options are overwhelming and so for the beta they were very hard to figure out what was the best setup. In fact, for the most part, many players just used the first gun you unlock: M41A.
Skill Based Matchmaking
The beta also had skill-based matching making, which meant a lot of players were killing themselves on purpose to "reverse boost" the matchmaking system so they would get in lobbies with noob players.
Nukes Are Back
If you manage to get a 25 killstreak with your gun, you're going to awarded with the game-ending nuke. This is another reason why players reverse boost, so they are put in easier lobbies to get nukes.
Call Of Duty Modern Warfare released on October 25th, with a single player campaign, multiplayer and spec op missions. PS4 users will also get the exclsuvie Survival Mode for 1 year (other platforms will need to wait). Loot boxes are also back this year, with weapons being locked behind paywalls. This year there is no season pass, so you will get free content and maps along the way as the game's yearly cycle continues.
